Description
Summary:Within the framework of an archaeoseismological project in Ostia (Italy), this paper discusses archaeological evidence of historic seismic damage of one of the arcade pillars in a building originally used as a warehouse for goods - “Piccolo Mercato” - located in the North-West part of the archaeological site. This interdisciplinary study is aimed at providing an interpretation of the detected damage by performing some numerical simulations. One of the pillars was represented by a finite element (FE) model, considering natural ground motion records. FE model allowed to conduct complete nonlinear time-history analyses. The results cross-validate the already provided interpretation of the historic damage, and suggest a possible dateline.
