Description
Summary:THE MULATTO WOMAN: BETWEEN LOVE AND AVERSION Through an analysis of the novel Gabriela, cravo e canela by Jorge Amado, we intent to show a simultaneous insertion and rejection of the female mulatto figure in the Brazilian society. Seen in the light of the “love antropophagy” of Affonso de Sant’Anna and the theorical conceptualization by Teófilo de Queiroz, the figure of Gabriela reveals its ambiguity, opening the possibility of an interpretation based more on her social inscription than on her individual portrait as well as on her representativity as a model of mulatto female which denounces the discourse of male patriarchal power behind her image.
