In this review article, we emphasised that there is a necessity to safeguard estuarine crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) and the Malayan gharials (Tomistoma schelegii) in the local ecosystem. More so, we aim to propose sustainable protection standards for these reptiles. We reviewed selected scientific studies related to crocodylians, and resources with regard to local environmental education and overall wildlife conservation efforts. We deem that the exposure to crocodylian scientific knowledge is exceptionally rare in Malaysia as compared to other wildlife. We argue that the erosion of knowledge will have adverse impacts in safeguarding the species. The discussion further highlighted the need to redress existing biodiversity policies and foregrounding formal biodiversity curriculum and literacy for constructive nature ownership in Malaysian schools.
