description | The research on the social and psychological factors of workforce migration is of relevance due to the increase in labour migration in Russia. Another factor that makes the problem relevant is the necessity to understand how migration intentions and decision of a person to migrate are formed. The purpose of the research is to study the correlation between career orientations and migration intentions as well as to justify the fact that the level of one’s satisfaction with their social and fi nancial status has a moderating infl uence on this correlation. Presumably, there is a moderating infl uence of the level of satisfaction with social and financial status on the correlation between career orientations and migration intentions. The study has been carried out on a sample of respondents (N=367; aged 19 to 56, Mage = 36, SD = 7.15; 55% of women) living in diff erent cities of the Russian Federation (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Smolensk, Samara, Saratov, etc.). Psychodiagnostic tools have been used: the questionnaire "Career Anchors" (by E. G. Shane, adapted by A. A. Zhdanovich), the methodology to study the level of social frustration (L. I. Wasserman, adapted by V. V. Boyko), the author's original questionnaire to study migration intentions (M. N. Efremenkova), compiled on the basis of the planned behavior theory and methodology of I. Aisen. As a result of multiple regression and moderation analysis, the study has revealed that the higher the level of frustration over the status and socio-economic benefits is, the more pronounced the migration intentions are. The level of satisfaction with social and economic status is a moderator variable of the correlation between migration intentions and such career orientations as "conditions orientation" and "vertical career orientation". There is no signifi cant correlation between migration intentions and horizontal career orientation. The results obtained can be of practical value in career counseling and psychological support of migrant workers’ adaptation. |
