description At the beginning of the XVII century, to reestablish all repercussions of Uniate it was necessary to use all possible facilities to revive Metropolis of Kyiv. In the confrontation with the Roman-Catholic Church, not only the problems of administrative management and church rule were on the agenda, but religious issues were also important. In the 30's of the XVII century an active and effective person in church life was the Archbishop of Polotsk Meletii (Smotrytsky). For a more in-depth study of the actual theological disputes of this period, he made a journey to the Ecumenical Patriarch and other Eastern priests of the ancient autocephalous churches. After returning home, Meletii (Smotrytsky), resorted to another extreme and began sincerely believe that all problems could be solved by joining the union with Rome. This position he described in his famous work, "Apology", where, with the help of theological constructs, he argued the benefits of full subordination to the Roman throne. For the Metropolis of Kyiv, this position of the high hierarch has become a real challenge. Metropolitan of Kiev Yov (Borecky) was decided to convene a regional council of all bishops, monks, presbyters and influential laymen, to resolve the problem with a council vote. Thus, in the history of our Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a regional council was created that fully realized its judicial power in matters of dogmas and Orthodox doctrine. In addition to procedural justice and sentencing, we have also received an extremely interesting precedent - an accomplishment during the Liturgy of the "rank" of the anathematization of the convicted theological work with the personal participation of the author himself. The activity of the Kiev Council in 1628 reached its goal - the Metropolis of Kyiv was completely faithful to Orthodoxy in its entirety, but the personal fate of Meletii (Smotrytsky), initially led him to the unia and then to historical oblivion.
