Description
Summary:Mustafa Kemal Paşa, after the Battle of Dumlupınar, while, on the one hand, was looking for a remedy to make the victory permanent, on the other, with no delay, made preparations for building the future without crowing over the victory. In this scope, to give his messages and declare his programme, he chose Bursa and stayed there for a fortnight. Bursa was the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, and had then declared its liberation from foreign occupation. In this historical place, he was going to adress the teachers coming from Istanbul with the teachers in Bursa. But, the capital of the Empire was also still under occupation. He appeared before teachers and gave messages for the future not only as a commander who was proud of his victory, but as a theoretician and revolutionist who wanted to secure the future of his country based on learning and science. It is obvious that he knew that he would win this difficult War of Independence and he was prepared for the future plans. He won the War of Independence on the military front by the total mobilization of a nation. Following this, he would start a struggle for gaining a victory of the constitution and the process of illumination by the army of education based on reason and science. Teachers, soldiers of the army of education, would be the pioneers of this process and thus carry the lights of education to Anatolia. Therefore, through the teachers coming from Bursa who greeted his victory, Atatürk assigned the duty of enlightenment of our nation, which would be based on learning and science, to all of the teachers in the country. In this regard, the study aims to make an original contribution by means of examining the trips of the teachers from Istanbul and analysing, for the first time, the similarities between Mustafa Kemal Pasha's Bursa speech and the Amasya Circular in terms of their motive and method.
