Summary:Liturgical singing in the Orthodox Church is a way of worship itself. In the base of all ecclesiastic chants is the Word, and not only the musical beauty. The ecclesiastic chant has the most powerful influence in those who pray. Long ago, it was required by the clergy that in the Holy temple must be sung “in the way that the church requires.” But the notion of “ecclesiastical spirit” has no clear definition yet. That is why, this requires depth study by the specialists relevant to ecclesiastic music, its history and practice.
