Summary:The article deals with the problems of transformation of St. Petersburg industrial territories including the impressive number of monuments of industrial architecture. The work objective: to trace the application of various methods of transformation - reconstruction, restoration and new construction - by way of examples of St. Petersburg historic industrial estates. The examples of renovation of London and Liverpool territories similar in the branch principle to St. Petersburg shipbuilding complexes are used for comparison. The authors contemplate possible ways of modern use of industrial zones, which do not destroy the historical and cultural uniqueness of the urban landscapes. As a result, the authors come to the conclusion about the necessity of taking into account the historical and cultural importance of St. Petersburg industrial territories in the early stage of redevelopment.
