description The article aims at presenting the Lp “O Banquete dos Mendigos” (“Beggars Banquet”) (1973) as a documentary evidence of restriction to artistic and musical activity during the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985). The reflections presented are guided by History of the Present Time, relating that perspective to approaches that dimensioned repression and state control over musicians during the authoritarian regime. It also seeks to measure the importance of audiovisual and musical sources in the work of the historian, having as parameter this case study in particular.
