description The elderly population as an age group more prone to health problems, therefore, can expect a sharp rise in chronic diseases, all with low mortality and high degree of disability so that these individuals seek more immediate care. Therefore, the choice of topic was made from the knowledge of what it takes older people to seek emergency treatment. A total of 50 elderly people from an emergency department in April 2010, 21 males and 29 females, aged over 60 who remain in the Emergency Department for over an hour. Most patients are female and have between 60 and 70 years of age with incomplete primary education, the Catholic religion, with the highest demand for hypertension and diabetes among women between the men, most of the visits lasted between one and three hours. Emergency Department sought the Paraíba Valley to treat hypertension, diabetes and back pain.
