Description
Summary:The historical environment serves as a bridge from the past to the present by bringing together various information about the social, cultural, economic, sociological characteristics, traditions, aesthetic understandings and construction techniques of various civilizations that it has hosted for centuries. Change in the historical environment is inevitable due to various reasons such as the changing needs of the society, population growth and physical damage/dysfunction of historical buildings. A qualified change in the historical environment depends on the designer taking into account the context of the historical environment and choosing the appropriate design approach with the awareness of protecting the historical environment. In order to contribute to researchers and to designers who design new buildings/additions in the historical environment, in the scope of this study, information is given about the context, the historical environment, the new building /addition in the historical environment and the design approaches. In the light of this information, examples of new buildings/additions in the historical environment from various countries have been selected and examined. Then the opinions of various researchers about these samples have been given.
