description | This presentation addresses the presence of Latinisms in French and Polish phrases of legal language.
We distinguish Latin fixed sequences as phrases (paremias) and non-verbal syntagms (locutions). I will
try to discuss the mechanism of incorporating Latin prepositional locutions (e.g. extra legem) in legal
discourse, their role in phrases and moreover whether we can talk about intertextuality.
I have defined the linguistic status of the prepositional syntagm as a “short fixed phrase”, their
place (in word compounds and sentences) and their functions in the phrase (epithet function — raisonnement/wnioskowanie
a contrario). I will try to answer the following questions : is there a semantic,
syntactic or contextual dependence in the receiving language, are these linguistic phenomena the
same for French and Polish legal languages? |
