Description
Summary:This article faithfully depicts the oral tradition of La Higuerilla, in the rural area of Tejeda (Gran Canaria), within the Canary Islands. The reporter, María del Socorro García Quintana and her two daughters, provide us with an important collection of romances, songs (the arrorró nursery rhyme, coplas and other folk songs), tales and stories of witches, aberruntos, and candil and children’s dance games The genre best represented is that of the coplas and tales of witches, as well as a good collection of romances. The corpus that the reporter owns is faithful to a part of the tradition that existed in the past, but which is now very difficult to recover.
