Summary: | The author considers the processes connected with the establishment of Trade and Mining Exchange in Yekaterinburg whose distinctive feature was that it was not established by the merchants of the city but entrepreneurs of the whole Urals united in their representative organizations, namely, assemblies of miners and goldminers involved in the exploration of mineral resources (ore, gold, platinum) and extraction of metals from them (iron, steel, copper). The author considers all the problems the entrepreneurs of Yekaterinburg and the Urals faced while establishing an exchange in Yekaterinburg. Yekaterinburg was the centre of an uyezd, and, at the same time, a recognized centre for the development of ore and gold mining, an important trade centre for all sorts of goods that were transported from central Russia to Siberia and Middle Asia, and backwards. However, in the period in question, it was common for exchanges to be established in governorate centres. |
