| description | This article studies the conversion of the artist of Lyons Auguste Morisot. In Venezuela in 1886-1887, he discovers the smallness of the man vis-à-vis the greatness of the nature and finds the faith of his childhood. This faith forms itself during a stay in Rome in 1912. Morisot wants that the art participates in the redemption of the man, what sets him to the innovative currents of his time; like the priest, the artist is an intermediary between God and the man. This thought reflects the ideas expressed at the École des Beaux Arts of Lyons and in the artistic circles of Lyons of the second half of the XIXth century. We find it in the painting of Morisot, especially his landscapes, which belong to the traditionalist symbolism. |
