| description | Se entrega información sobre la fauna acompañante capturada durante faenas de pesca de pez espada realizadas por dos naves, una artesanal y una industrial, entre noviembre del 2000 y septiembre del 2001. Ambas naves operaron dentro y fuera de la Zona Económica Exclusiva (ZEE), entre los 24°07'S y 37°13'S frente a la costa chilena. En cada lance de pesca las especies fueron identificadas, contadas y medidas sus longitudes. Se registró la presencia de seis especies de condrictios (cinco tiburones y una raya) y de diez teleósteos, además de la especie objetivo. El porcentaje numérico de las especies encontradas en la fauna acompañante muestra un alto porcentaje de condrictios (72%) con respecto al pez espada (21%), siendo el azulejo (Prionace glauca) la especie más abundante en las capturas con un 59%<br>The information on the by-catch captured during fishing operations of two vessels (one artisanal and other industrial) is analyzed, between November 2000 and September 2001. Both vessels operated inside and outside of the Chilean Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) between 24°07'S and 37°13'S. The species from each fishing haul were identified, counted and measured in their length. The presence of six species of chondrichthyan fishes (five sharks and one ray) and 10 teleosts fishes was recorded, including the target species. The percentage by number of the species found in the by-catch shows a high percentage of chondrichthyan fishes (72%) with respect to the swordfish (21%), being the blue shark (Prionace glauca) most abundant species in the catches with a 59% of the total number of fish caught |
