Summary:Purpose. This article discusses some interpretations of Emily Dickinson poetry in terms of the translation fidelity. The object of the research is Emily Dickinson’s poetic works. Methodology. The linguistic and comparative analysis makes the basis of the study. The relevance of the study determined the need to study the problems of adequacy and equivalence of translation from English into Russian, preserving the expressive and emotional load and aesthetic value of a literary text. Results. The authors substantiate the closest version of translation, taking into account the holistic picture of the poetess’s world and grammatical features of the English language. Emily Dickinson’s poems should be translated with due consideration of the enhancing the expressiveness of verbal images and their emotional impact on the reader; translation involvement in expressing the content idea and emotional mood of a poem, the author’s assessments, views and feelings; creation of specific authorial poetic images. Practical implications. The results can be used in translation study and foreign literature course.
