Summary:<p class="Tekststreszczenia-EN">The article presents the historical development of competition law discussing reasons for adopting particular national antimonopoly legislation. The following analysis of goals of competition law leads to the conclusion that there is no agreement what goals competition law should have. Furthermore some of identified goals of competition law are conflicting. Nonetheless the majority of national competition laws and the academics accept that competition law should aim at achieving the basic economic goals that is consumer welfare. The rest of possible goals of competition law depend on political choices of governments.</p>
