description This paper discusses the analysis of the impact that the implementation of technologies have on the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs in the manufacturing sector of El Hueco, in Medellin, until 2013, making of technology a functional strategy to strengthen productive and competitive quality. Based on this, a research process was developed where the orientation of the methodological design of the research corresponds to a quantitative descriptive, non-experimental study; we worked with a population of 1,034. P and q values for the calculation of the sample come from a test pilot. These parameters were used for the calculation and it yielded 71 as a result.A structured interview was used as the only tool for data collection, a digital design applied in the cloud, under the Likert model was implemented. It was found that a high percentage of the bussinesses surveyed comes under the status small due to the low number of employees. We also found that most of these businesses work in the manufacture of clothing for men and women for personal and work use. Likewise, the results show that SMEs in the manufacturing sector of El Hueco in Medellin do not use specialized equipment for their production processes, and do not use computer science as a strategy for administrative processes, either. Therefore, a conclusion drawn from this study is that the implementation of new technologies is likely to be an effective strategy to strengthen the productivity and competitiveness of these small businesses.
