Description
Summary:Since the first decade of the 21st century, information and communication technology has become both a tool for the individual and, in many cases, a way of life. Undoubtedly, the Internet has revolutionized the society in which we live, has affected every sector of the economy, but at the same time has led to the emergence of a new phenomenon called digital divide. The aim of the present paper is to study the existence of long-term connections (cointegration) between the degree of use by individuals of information and communication technology (ICT) and social indicators which characterize the level of development at regional level (NUTS 2) in Romania. Results confirm the presence of significant direct influences of Participation rate in education and training and Gross domestic product on Percentage of individuals who ordered goods or services over the internet for private use. The results found from Romania can be generalized and compare to other countries which have similar features in terms of ICT and the level of economic development.
