description |
Demography; is defined as a discipline examining human population in terms of its magnitude, structure and development (Üner, 1972). The field of demography involved with the past is named paleo demography. Paleo demography is quiet different from today’s demography. Because in paleodemographic surveys; after a society existed previously but not currently is generated and their age and sexes, as well as population of women, men and children are determined , some information based on these data are presented on average expectancy, population density and health of the society. Determination of paleodemographic structures of 163 pieces of skeletons found in archeological digs carried out between 2001 -2007 in Kelenderis / Theater field - located in Aydıncık; one of the districts of Mersin with its current name- and which have been retro dated to 19th. century as well as displaying their similarities and distinctions with other Anatolian societies comprise the purpose of this work. 50 percent of individuals composing the population belong to baby and children. The rate of this group in general population is 30,67 %. 97 adult individuals consist of 48 women and 49 men. The rate of women in society in general has been determined as 29,45 % whereas this rate has been determined as 30,07 % for men. Age and sexes of remaining 16 individuals could not be specified. When adult individuals’ age average is observed; it is seen that women and men introduced 43,61 42,89 years respectively, whereas the society in general displayed around 43,27 years average values. In Kelendiris society most intensive deaths have been observed in individuals between 0-5 years. Deaths in this interval are represented by a rate of 28,18 % within the society. 45 % babies and children died before 2 years old whereas 82,50 % died before 6 years old. Death by 31 individuals existed within first 5 years decreases the chance of survival of the society prior to reaching adult level down to 71,82 %. This rate can reach up to 34,55 % in advanced adultness stage. Life expectancy of individuals who reached maturity level is 29,33 years. When individuals below 18 are added to life expectancy, life expectancy of the society at birth reaches 29,95 years. The highest life expectancy in the society has been determined as 35,77 years for the ages between 5-10 years.
|
