Description
Summary:Within this paper there are exposed a new approach of a few aspects regarding the monitoring of the soils and spontaneous vegetation evolution using free GIS and open source GIS software, as well as free georeferenced digital maps. For this purpose, the few elements were used, as follows: the free Landsat 1990/2000 coverage maps of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserv(https://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/), the data about soils and vegetation evolution, land observation (in the different point of the Danube Delta area), as well as FWTools and Quantum GIS – 1.2.0 Daphnis for map’s visualization and editing. Another very useful software for our purposes were OpenOffice that could be used for manage data and editing reports. All of them can be used, saving at least 2.056 €, in order to understand the evolution of the soil and vegetation of the wetland areas. on Within Geographical Information System, the information about wetlands canbe manage very easy, in order to provides an explicit representation of the soil-vegetations relations on the information systems. The area used or that study is Caraorman sand bank. Within that area was studied the possibility to manage the data aboutevolution of the soils cover and vegetation on free GIS office software applications.
