These measures led to a flurry of changes, temporary or more lasting, in social relations, forms of work, police surveillance, economic activities, education, food circuits … If one measures the generality of a phenomenon by the diversity of the spheres of activity affected, then lockdown is a rapid and massive rise in generality that can be considered a form of disorder. Just as a therapy used to preserve a patient's health can have side effects that are disorders in a patient’s body, so the measures to curb the epidemic have effects on various aspects of the social world. This analysis is supported by results from a survey conducted in France during the spring 2020 lockdown among more than 16,000 people, and then repeated in December 2020 and January 2021 among 3,620 people who responded to the first survey. |
