description In Francophone literature, the character is often represented as the embodiment of the search of identity whose aim would be a new self-accomplishment. Through Vénus Khoury-Ghata and Malika Mokeddem’s works, we seek for factors giving rise to a character’s awareness of its own condition in order to outline some possible narrative strategies that could be shared in Francophone literary production crossing the geographical borders. So, our study is principally built on a functional approach of the relationships between the main character and her entourage that reveal a wish of self-reappropriation. The results show two different authors’ paths, apparently divergent, but both expressing the same need through rebellion, estrangement and release. Finally, the self-accomplishment can only take place in an incessant evolution determined by the “migrant” nature of their identity considered as a positive value.
