description In 2004, five Brazilian researchers developed a survey upon the request of Unesco in order to map out the conditions of Philosophy in various Brazilian regions, in its various levels, with special emphasis on high school education. In the said research, the state of Tocantins only appears in reference to the quantification of weekly philosophy classes in High School, that is, at a minimum of two weekly classes during the school year. Considering this, I pursued the following line of inquiry: What are the conditions of the teaching of Philosophy in the high school level within the public school system in the state of Tocantins? Taking this question into account, I set out to investigate, among the teachers, the teaching conditions of Philosophy in the public school system in the state of Tocantins, with an emphasis on the High School level and, consequently, seek data for practical intervention, in the context of the return of Philosophy as a required subject in High School education, and to that end, contribute to the creation of the Philosophy course at the Federal University of Tocantins.
