Summary:Objective: This study identifies the dimensions and factors affecting "talent identification in librarians of university libraries affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology.Methodology: This research is a mixed study with a combination of qualitative (grounded theory) and quantitative (descriptive-survey). The statistical population include 15 experts, and 390 librarians whom were selected by theoretical and cluster sampling. A semi-structured interview was used in the qualitative part and a questionnaire in the quantitative part. Data analysis was performed by qualitative data coding method with MAXQDA. And based on principal component analysis method and structural equation modeling (SEM). Findings: Effective dimensions on talent identification of librarians were identified in 6 dimensions : the central phenomenon (talent identification and selection talent recruitment, evaluation and development); Causal conditions (central talent in the university, value and position of the library profession in the university); Strategies (comprehensive analysis of librarianship job, appropriate university approach to talented librarians, development of university librarians training process); Background conditions (legal contexts, goals and prospects of the university, economic and social issues); Interfering factors (environmental conditions); And the consequences (individual flourishing of librarianship talents, library upgrades and university success, growth and development of the country) .Originality: The need for comprehensive attention to the talent search of University librarians leads to effective development of university libraries. By using the pattern presented in this study and providing appropriate conditions by Higher Education policymakers and public universities, the status of academic libraries would be improved.
