Summary: | History is compiled on the basis of documentary data from the literature, culvert
inscriptions and copper plates of the territories of each empire from the Sangam period
onwards in Tamil Nadu. It is noteworthy that the kings recorded their references in the
inscriptions as well as the written data engraved on them in copper plates. Many of the
evidence about the Sethupathi kings who ruled Ramanathapuram as Sethunadu as kings of the Sethu land and there are meikeerthis (Title songs) about them. The donations from them to particular temples in and around the areas have also been recorded. There are lots of inscriptions, copper plates regarding it. Thus, the inscriptions of the Sethupathi kings who ruled Ramanathapuram under the name of Sethunadu as small kingdoms have been recorded through the donations made by them to the temples on the main category. On that basis, the contributions made by the Sethupathi kings to the Avudaiyar temple called ‘Bavidhramanikka Chaturvedi Mangalam to be consecrated and is also mentioned in the inscriptions. The facts of the contributions are explained with the history of the Sethupathi kings. Hence, the article finds out the evidence related to it.
