description The author analyses illegal emigration from the Croatian part of Istria from the end of World War II to the late1960s. The migrations mentioned in the article came to light through s oral histories and a small number of archives. Immediately after 1945 the illegal migrations were the result of the political and economic situation, but later have the reasons were primarily economic. The author notes that the exodus and the illegal immigration are two processes which were taking place independently of each other. He also points out that there is very little written or oral material about illegal immigration before the beginning of the 21th century. There is also no literature on this topic and the archives remain unexplored.
