description | The 2013 Barcelona World Swimming Championships have confirmed once again the conclusion of various specialists and statistics that the results recorded at the World Championships following the Summer Olympic Games are more valuable from a performance standpoint. The men's 50m and 100m freestyle events attract the most attention, being considered the most disputed, being the most watched events by the specialists, by the media, and by a larger audience. The chances of each athlete aspiring to the top title are analyzed, their competition strategies, but also the statements of the most valuable swimmers. The pertinent analyses of the races, especially during the late stages of the competition, semifinals and final, represent extremely important sources of information for coaches and researchers, offering data and specific indices that can improve the athletes' future performances, or can predict certain performances. In this study I aim to analyze the men's 50m freestyle final at the 2013 Barcelona World Swimming Championships, and to compare the results with the ones recorded by the athlete I am currently coaching, the Romanian swimmer Norbert Trandafir, an athlete who was qualified in the semifinals for this event, but came out in 13th position in the final, with a new national record (21.98 s), a time that can mean a qualification in the European, World, and why not, even Olympics finals. |
