The methods of extraction and treatment of the fibres are difficult to understand only on the base of the archaeological remains. Though many archaeological tools are associated with this step of the textile production, their field of utilization remains thoroughly enigmatic. Experimentation, craft industry and ethnological documentation are the main sources of information. They testify to homogeneous processes in time and space ; they inform on the durability of the methods and of the tools used. In supporting a better interpretation of the archaeological remains (tools, vegetal remains, structures…), they refine the understanding of the procedures used in prehistoric times. |
