description | This study proposes studying the feeling of “fear”, which is a fully political emotion, from dual and complementary viewpoints. The first of these is factual, in an effort to identify manifestations of fear in the sources treating the period after Caesar’s death (44-30 BC), as well as an awareness of this emotion on the part of rulers when they took action. The second is ideological, namely to show how this real fear was exploited and even amplified after Augustus seized power, as the new regime sought to contrast the insecurity of the preceding period with the security or tranquillity ensured by the new regime thanks to the return to peace. |
