description American neoconservatism has had a considerable audience in recent years. Indeed, this school of thought is associated to the “aggressive” foreign policy pursued by the George W. Bush administration in the Middle East in the early 2000s. Neoconservatism is in reality a much older movement, whose genesis remains relatively “complex”. In general, we can distinguish two main generations within the school of thought, one during the Cold War and the other, from the mid-1990s. This work aims to analyze, in detail, this second generation of neoconservatism, from its revival shortly after the end of the Cold War to its gradual decline, especially in the years following the term of George W. Bush. In particular, it is an issue of questioning its position within other families of American conservatism. In this respect, neoconservatism seems to develop a particular vision of domestic and international affairs, making it a movement “apart” from other conservative trends.
