Description
Summary:This is a review of a new book by prominent researcher of Tuvan musical folklore Z.K. Kyrgys “Tuvan folk songs and ritual poetry” (Novosibirsk, 2015), published in Russian and Tuvan languages. This publication is of huge social significance, since it contains a number of musical examples of folk songs and ritual poetry. The last of this type of publication was released as far back as in 1970s. We focus specifically on the musicological sections of the book and specimens of musical notation, some of which were published for the first time ever. Also noted are what we believe to be the weaknesses of the publication, such as  a number of misprints which make the understanding and performing of the pieces more difficult.
