Description
Summary:In this paper, we intend to discuss the use of literary texts, more specifically of the short story genre, in the teaching of Spanish to Brazilian students. The focus will be mainly its use as a pedagogical resource for the teaching of linguistic variation. Based on the findings of Labov and Bugel (1999), Santos (2002, 2005), Rodrigues (2005), Picanço (2003), Kraviski (2007), Coan and Pontes (2013), Pontes (2009, 2014), Lima (2014) and Faraco (2015), we analyze the approach to linguistic variation adopted by Spanish textbooks for Brazilians. Next, we propose the use of short stories to teach the Spanish linguistic diversity and present activity proposals. Thus, we seek to promote the reflection on the importance of considering the use of literary texts in the teaching of linguistic variation.
