Summary: | It is said that the speech of ancient people has a kind of phonetic structure. Music, poetry and Yapu have originated from it. “Tolkappiyam” is the first book to define the grammar of the Tamil language. It subtly describes the linguistic systems in the Tamil language and the rules to be followed. The antiquity of Tamil grammar can be seen when looking at Tolkappiyar's definition of language as grammar. Grammar examines the form, and structure of syllables, phonology, etc. “Tolkappiyam” defines Yapu as one of the thirty-four elements. A word is divided into separate elements such as Syllables and Yappu. Later on, Yapilakana came to be a discussion of the Paa forms and the Thodai systems that give light to the Paa forms etc. Yapu occupies a very important place in poetry. It helps to keep the form of the poem intact. The purpose of this article is to investigate how one of the elements of Yapilakana is elaborated in Eladi, which is one of the 18 books composed in the Sangam Maruviya period, which is hailed as the dark period of Tamil literature.
