description
In Romania (maybe more than elsewhere) there is a high degree of diversity in terms of public administration programs, regarding their vision, curriculum and ways of delivery. This difference may be attributed to different mission statements or to specific perception values, individual or organizational perceptions, and values on public administration as a field of study. Mission statements might be rather the aggregate vision of individual members of the academic department than an empty official pronouncement. The aim of this paper is to analyze the characteristics of three leading Public Administration (PA) programs in Romania in terms of mission statement, underlying principles and their embedment in practice, in accordance to several variables: vision on the field of public administration, perception on the profession, curricula, demographic and work-related factors (such as the presence or absence of an enabling work environment etc.). Data was collected through a questionnaire ap[1]plied online to the members of the departments in charge of these three PA programs (at Bachelor and Master levels): AES (Academy of Economic Sciences) Bucharest, National School of Political and Administrative Studies (NSPAS) Bucharest and FPACS (Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences), Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca.
