Description
Summary:The author of this note is not a linguist, although he has long been interested in toponymy. He collected these names following discontinuous enquiries with the fishermen of the ports where he stopped. The aim of these surveys was essentially to gather information on the topography of the seabed, possibly on its evolution over time, and secondarily on the perception of the seabed by the fishermen. The names of places were only added to the list. Nevertheless, the information presented allows us to draw attention to the birth of toponymic systems in newly discovered countries, since knowledge of the topography of the sea bed by fishermen is relatively recent (about 40 years).
