description Destruction of ecosystems and fragmentation of natural areas are the first cause of biodiversity erosion. At the international level, this finding has led states and NGOs to formulate some framework objectives to ensure its long-term conservation. In this context, the ecological network has become increasingly important in nature protection policies, especially in Europe. A renewed approach of biodiversity conservation, the ecological network is a key concept in landscape ecology, whose purpose is to provide connexions between species’ natural habitats by corridors in order to maintain the landscape connectivity, which is one of the leading conditions of species survival. The paper proposes to focus on the construction of this concept, from its scientific basis to its appropriation by public policies, and the problems raised by local declination. The French case will support this analysis, through the implementation of the green and blue infrastructure.
