Description
Summary:This research examines the use of language in public spaces, especially at the Majapahit Kingdom heritage site, Mojokerto. The aim of this research is to describe how language is used at the Majapahit Kingdom heritage site, Mojokerto using linguistics landscape studies. This research data is a form of language use on posters, signboards, public signs and other signs in the research area that can reflect Mojokerto's designation as a historic city. The research results show that there are seven languages used, namely Indonesian, Javanese, English, Arabic, Hokkien, Mandarin and Pāli. These forms of language use are divided into three categories of language signs in public spaces, namely warning signs, information signs and place names. Factors that influence language signs in public spaces were also found to represent Mojokerto as a heritage site of the Majapahit Kingdom, namely as a place for research and visits for local and foreign tourists. These factors include government regulations, communication needs and marketing promotions for each location.
