description The karyotype of grass carp, Ctenopharyngodon idella, was studied for determination the number and kind of chromosomes of this fish by leukocyte culture method. The examination of 47 metaphase plates prepared from 3 specimen indicated that the Chromosome numbers of this species was found 2n=48 and the arm numbers Was determined as NF=84. The karyotype prepared this fish consists of 10 pairs of metacentric, 8 pairs of submetacentric and 6 pairs of subtelocentric chromosomes (10m+8sm+6st).The largest chromosome in this species is pair of the submetacentric chromosomes.
