Summary:This paper is the result of the discussions developed in the third chapter of the Master's Degree thesis on Geography and its objective is to understand how the new category of "sustainable" development was incorporated into the new actions carried out by the State in its efort to achieve space/time adjustment in the post-1990 neoliberal context. In general, the article seeks to understand the construction of this concept in international organizations, the process of neoliberalization in Brazil, the redefinition of the State's role, and the regional development strategies for established for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
