Summary:Waterfront areas are considered one of the vital and challenging urban spaces which give a great opportunity and catalyst to develop the city. Through the historical and literature studies that interested in the waterfront development, that showed the important role of the waterfront not only as a place for trade, transport and industry but also a place of entertainment, recreation and tourism. Therefore, the waterfront achieves sustainable urban development and enhances the quality of urban life. And Despite the international attention to the phenomenon of waterfront development, it has not getting the same attention in the in the Middle East, only through some individual attempts.
