Summary:In this paper, the fundamental characteristics of PaveM—the pavement management system for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is introduced first, together with the various beta-testing efforts to validate and customize the engineering configuration of the software. The implementation of PaveM to support the development of the pavement asset ten-year management plan is then described. The tools and methods implemented to facilitate total investment determination and individual project evaluation and selection are presented in detail.
