The diagnosis is challenging because of the overlapping symptomatology. The pathogenesis is complex and controversial, the incidence is high, but is frequently under-diagnosed and under-treated. The aim of this article is to review the most important aspects of depression in multiple sclerosis as: epidemiology, pathogenesis, assessment, correlates with disability, cognition, fatigue, quality of life, suicide, the relationship with the immunomodulatory therapy, neuroimaging and treatment options. |
