| description | In the story of the expulsion from paradise present in Genesis we find the foundation of man’s guilt, the so-called original sin, a reminder infinitely echoed in the millenary Jewish-Christian tradition thanks also to those iconic notes which are the tree of knowledge and the tree of life. Beyond the multiple theological interpretations, the two trees of the garden of Eden, the real protagonists of the story, can present themselves to the contemporary reader not only as perennial symbols of hubris and immortality, but also as ambiguous, if not exactly ironic, figures of a narration that oscillates between the ancient intention of always telling the same myth and the hidden desire not to tell it anymore. The appearance on the narrative scene of the two trees, punctuated by a vaporous alternation, in fact depicts an unstable two-faced plant, whose very high poetic charge, once made to shine, causes the very foundation that underlies it to sink. From an anti-pastoral perspective and through a briefnarrative exegesis, this article rereads the well-known biblical text in the most common Italian translation, underlining the ambiguity of the story and highlighting the paradoxical link between guilt and its disappearance. |
