Summary: | A method for continuously measuring the quantity of non-conducting immiscible liquid dispersed in a detergent slurry is developed. The instrument relies on measuring the rms value of fluctuations in the instantaneous resistance across electrodes in the flowing fluid. Fundamental concepts underlying this technique are discussed, together with the details of the measuring system and the construction of the electrodes. Some experimental results are presented which show that the output of the instrument is proportional to the quantity of the dispersed phase. This technique is generally applicable to any two-phase fluid system where the carrier is conducting and the minor discontinuous component has a different value of conductivity. |
