Summary:The recognition of sign language as the natural language of the deaf by Law nº 10.436/02 completely changed the reality of the deaf in Brazil. From the legitimacy of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) the deaf were able to secure other rights, such as access into basic education. Since then, teachers and students seek a quality education that meets Portuguese deaf and hearing in the same school context, providing everyone a teaching that is not disconnected from the reality, but that allows the appropriation of multiple aspects in everyday language. It is necessary to train individuals capability of reflecting about the language, knowing that the use of it is effective in social relationships, in real contexts, so that is why the classroom discussions of genres are needed to be brought to the classroom. It is proposed, therefore, a bilingual education that allows to the student placed in a listener context the access to a full training with regard to language and an education that is not restricted to grammatical rules, but enable the deaf full exercise of their second language. Therefore, this article aims to propose different forms of uses of genres in teaching Portuguese language to the deaf.
