Summary:In the percent study, Arabic and guar gums were used to investigate their effect on the corrosion behavior of steel in a concrete simulator. For this purpose, separately 100, 250, 500, and 1000 ppm Arabic gum and guar gum inhibitors and synergistic were added to the sample when immersed in concrete simulator solution (CSS) for 1, 4, 24, and 48 h. Corrosion behavior was investigated by electrochemical impedance (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization tests. Results showed that a proper distribution of the inhibitor on the metal surface created a favorable cathode current and that a more negative potential at the anode was achieved for the synergistic inhibitor. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to analyze the samples, indicating that by increasing the concentration of the inhibitors the grain size increased too, showing that the inhibitors had been well absorbed on the surface. In general, the experimental results revealed that the synergistic effect of Arabic and guar gums could resolve the challenge of construction materials corrosion by presenting the adsorption mechanism of these inhibitors.
