description Objectives: Aim of this study is to compare the diagnoses and the symptoms of the patients who underwent unilateral Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in our clinic. Methods: Patients who underwent unilateral Endoscopic Sinus Surgery between January 2002 and May 2012 and had fully accessible hospital files were included to the study. Most disturbing symptoms, age and gender features were determined by scanning files retrospectively and those were compared with the diagnosis of patients. Patients who had bilateral endoscopic sinus surgery, endoscopic septoplasty, pituitary gland surgery, lacrimal duct surgery, cerebrospinal rhinorrhea repair, turbinate surgery, inadequate hospital files and unilateral illness but did not have endoscopic sinus surgery were excluded. Patients were divided into neoplastic and non-neoplastic groups, neoplastic patients were divided into benign and malign groups, and the data evaluated comparatively. Results: One hundred-seventeen patients were included to the study. Neoplastic disease was found in 17 of the patients and non-neoplastic disease was in 100 patients. The average age of the neoplastic group (44.2±19.5) was higher than non-neoplastic group (32.7±15.1). 5 of the neoplastic patients were malignant and 12 were benign. Esthesioneuroblastoma, rabdomyosarcoma, osteosarcoma, lymphoma were found as malignant neoplastic diseases. 32 antrochoanal polyps, 29 chronic sinusitis, 15 concha bullosa, 14 nasal polyps, 5 mucoceles, 2 odontogenic cysts, 2 meningoencephalosel and 1 squamous papilloma were found in non-neoplastic patients group. The most common complaint was nasal obstruction, and the second was pain in both groups. Bleeding and dysosmia were higher in neoplastic group and nasal discharge was higher in the non-neoplastic group. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in term of complaints (p>0.05).Conclusion: Many different diseases can be observed in patients who were underwent unilateral endoscopic sinus surgery. However, symptoms may not reveal enough information in term of neoplastic diseases. For this reason, careful endoscopic examination must be done, all lesions must be assessed by pathological examination and it should be kept in mind that neoplastic diseases can associate with all ages and symptoms.
