Description
Summary:The purpose of this contribution is to draw attention to the documentary sources preserved in Milan’s state archive with a view to approaching the courtly history of the Hispanic kingdoms through the diplomatic correspondence maintained in the second half of the 15th century and viewed as an accurate reflection of external relations and cultural interchange. In this connection it is important to identify the individual ducal agents of the Milanese legations at the court of the Catholic Monarchs who operated in the Iberian Peninsula, and compile a schematic. It has been necessary as far as possible to draw up a number of categories among these embassies, from temporary to more permanent ones, as in those times the divisions between political and economic business were highly fluid. The idea is thus to examine diplomacy as a wellspring from which to draw information that will help open up new horizons in historical research into the courtly world.
